U.S. and 12 Allies Promise Increased Military Response to Red Sea Attacks

Houthi assaults against commercial vessels are called “illegal, unacceptable, and profoundly destabilizing.”

The United States released a joint statement with 12 other nations this week, threatening increased military action in response to escalating attacks made on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea. The attacks are being made by the Houthi rebels based in Yemen, who claim that their actions are intended to support the residents of Gaza during Israel’s war against Hamas.

The White House stated that nearly 15 percent of global seaborne trade passes through the Red Sea annually, including large amounts of grain and oil. Since November 19, the Houthis have attacked commercial ships navigating the Red Sea at least 23 times.

“Let our message now be clear: We call for the immediate end of these illegal attacks and release of unlawfully detained vessels and crews,” the White House said. “The Houthis will bear the responsibility of the consequences should they continue to threaten lives, the global economy, and free flow of commerce in the region’s critical waterways.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Biden and Defense Secretary Austin to be prudent in the response to Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
  • For General Kurillla and the military commanders in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions.
  • For wisdom for U.S. officials and ministers of the allied nations as they address the Houthi assaults against commercial and other vessels.
